Core competence: bringing ideas and people together.
Frank has been self-employed since 1993 and, in addition to osentec, is still actively involved as a master orthopaedic technician and CEO at OT aktiv.
"Every time the doorbell rang for one of my regular patients with DFS, my heart sank a little as it usually meant they had a new wound. A new ulcer. A partial amputation, even. And all too often, the bell never rang again for this patient because he or she did not survive the consequences of the amputation.
I had to find a solution. A solution that would enable my patients to identify the problem before it could even become one. Finally, I stumbled across a study from the USA - and then it came to me. Five years of research and a lot of sleepless nights lie behind us, but now we're ready: osentec is up and running and ready to help people all around the globe.
From now on, that doorbell in my shop will hopefully only ring once a year - digitally, when our patients add a new pair of soles to their shopping basket!"
Co-founder & CEO
Core competence: juggling many balls at once
Before Lars took over at osentec, he worked as a consultant and engineer all over the world.
"My grandpa suffered from diabetes since his mid-20s and later also from DFS, so I know first-hand how much this limits you in your everyday life. My grandpa always struggled and could never romp or play with us as he would've liked.
When Frank came to me with his idea, I knew that this was something my grandpa would have wanted to have access, too. Being able to give people their freedom back by maintaining their mobility, that's what gets me out of bed in the morning. I hope that in the future, osentec will help so, so many parents and grandparents to be able to spend more time with their family.
My motivation is fueled by all our patients saying "if this had been available earlier, I'd still have both feet."
An interview with Lars and Frank
Frank, what’s your biggest motivation in life?
"I want to leave my own marks in this world."
Lars, is there anything that can instantly make your day?
"Oh yeah - a really good flat white!"
Frank, what’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
"A bad decision is still better than no decision"
Lars, tell us the story of your life in one sentence:
"I grew up in peaceful Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and ventured out to travel the world!"
Frank, what are you most grateful for in life?
"I am grateful for my family, and for the fact that I was able to build a reasonable economic existence without having to leave my home."
Lars, have you got a bucket list - and if you do, what’s still left to do?
"Phew, it's endless, actually, but touring Japan is pretty far up that list!"
We don’t want our insoles to become just another burden to mother nature once they have had their day. So in order to leave as little waste as possible, we need to think like nature: in cycles.
Our vision: to work towards a cycle economy. That’s why we try to incorporate the following things:
♻ a manufacturing process that goes beyond a product that will be thrown away one day
♻ give discarded insoles a new life - #recycle #reuse
♻ less is more: recycled and eco-friendly packaging
